Stay as in Shape as 51-year-old Halle Berry
It's hard to believe she is 51-years-old. Halle Berry is truly stunning and works incredibly hard to maintain her amazing physique. Lucky for us, E News asked her personal trainer, Peter Lee Thomas, her secret for staying in perfect shape.
Peter works with Halle five days a week and says that during her workouts “she doesn’t mess around”.
“...We are doing some boxing, some kickboxing, some Muay Thai... I'm definitely working on those skill sets with her and she's also doing strength and conditioning,” Peter explains.
“She's using kettlebells, barbells, dumbbells, working on the pull-up bar, doing dips, sprinting pushing heavy things, pulling stuff. It's just a really dynamic way to jumpstart anyone's metabolism.”
Peter stresses that to achieve a toned and fit body like Halle, you need to focus on lower weights and higher reps. “We combine lower weights with higher repetition and also using your body weight more. Going outside, not having to be fixed to a certain machine.”
Peter doesn't have Halle go on long distance runs. He finds that exercises are more effective when they are “explosive and really metabolic”. He tries to switch up her workout routine to keep her body from getting accustomed to it. “For longevity purposes, it saves your knees and joints. We'd rather do sprints rather than run five to 10 miles," said Peter.
Halle also loves well-rounded workouts. "She loves to train her core, her legs. She likes to work her upper body as well. She likes to do push-ups. I don't think there is a push-up out there that she can't do," said Peter.
As you may know, staying slim is roughly 70% diet and 30% exercise. Halle supplements her work out regimen with a modified Keto diet. The Ketogenic diet is high-fat, moderate protein, low-carb, and low-sugar.
Halle posted a #FitnessFriday photo on her personal Instagram emphasizing the benefits of stretching after working out. She said "After I work out, it’s important for me to stretch and lengthen. Fitness is not just about running, lifting and punching. For me, being athletic and super fit is also about being still, stretching and breathing. Including stretching in my fitness program helps my muscles stay long, limber, improves my mobility and range of motion and, most importantly, helps me avoid injuries."
Halle also mentioned in an Instagram post that she takes time to train her mind and meditate. "I can tell you that I’ve felt happier and more like my best self since I started meditating. I’ve learned that meditation helps to balance your left brain and right brain, and as a result, I feel more creative, I can absorb information faster and I experience better emotional health," said Halle.
